In April 2026, the Near-Bit Natural Gamma Spectroscopy Logging Tool (NGRS) independently developed by ArenaPetro, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as ArenaPetro) successfully passed high-temperature high-pressure (HTHP), vibration shock and water circulation tests. The tests verified the tool’s reliability and stability under complex downhole operating conditions, with all performance indicators meeting design specifications and industrial standards, marking a critical breakthrough in the tool’s R&D process.
The near-bit natural gamma spectroscopy logging tool is a logging-while-drilling (LWD) device mounted on drill collars. Its core functions include accurately acquiring downhole formation natural gamma spectral data, real-time sector imaging, dynamically capturing parameters such as hole inclination, bit rotation speed and downhole temperature, as well as rapid identification of formation lithology and stratigraphic boundary division.
While drilling, the tool can measure the content and spectral distribution of natural radioactive nuclides (Uranium U, Thorium Th, Potassium K) in formations in real time, delivering key data support for geosteering and formation evaluation.
The next phase will focus on quantitative calibration. By establishing an accurate gamma spectrum response model, the tool’s measurement precision will be further upgraded. Upon completion of calibration, the tool will be fully ready for field deployment, providing more precise and efficient technical support for oil and gas exploration.
